INTERNSHIP
POLICY
Effective: July 1, 2000
To be eligible
to receive credit for COMM or ENGL 495, Internship, students must adhere
to the following policies, procedures, and rules:
- You
must have junior or senior class standing.
- You
must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, with a B average (3.0) in your
communication/English major courses.
- You
must receive department approval of the internship before
formally applying for an internship with the prospective
internship provider.
- You
must have a faculty member agree to sponsor and supervise
your internship before formally applying for the internship
with the prospective internship provider.
- You
will receive one unit of credit per quarter for each 30 hours
of time spent in the internship.
- You
may not recover a salary from the internship provider during
your internship term. You may be reimbursed for expenses such
as automobile mileage, hotels, meals, etc., which are incurred
in the normal course of the internship.
- You
may receive a fixed stipend, which is not related to hours
worked during the internship, if such stipend is intended to
cover cost of tuition and/or room or board.
- If
you spend more hours in your internship than you have registered
for in accordance with rule 5, above, La Sierra University
and the Department of English and Communication will not accept
responsibility or liability on your behalf.
- The
internship provider must agree to give you the opportunity
to perform and/or observe a variety of tasks during the internship
period.
- Before
any grade (other than F, or I, or IP) is assigned, you must
submit to your faculty sponsor a written summary of your internship
and a log of the dates and hours spent at the internship detailing
the activities in which you participated.
- At
the conclusion of your internship, your faculty sponsor will
obtain an evaluation from your internship supervisor. This
information will be used by the faculty sponsor to assign a
letter grade for your internship experience.
- The
Department of English & Communication reserves the right to
refuse any internship to any student.
- To
ensure adherence to the above guidelines, each prospective
intern applicant must complete an internship application, available
in the department office (South Hall 107).
