GENERAL
STATEMENT
Undergraduate
- Directed
study is strongly discouraged on the undergraduate level.
Exceptions will be made only for unusual cases (i.e., transfer
students needing requirements or department majors having taken
all required courses).
Graduate
- A
maximum of two (2) directed study courses will be permitted.
GENERAL
PROVISIONS
- Directed
study will not duplicate earlier course work.
- Only
English majors may take ENGL 299 & 499.
- Only
Communication majors may take COMM 299, 399, & 499.
- Only
English Graduate Students may take ENGL 599 & 699.
APPROVAL
PROCEDURE
- Complete
a Directed/Independent Study Request Form available at the
Registrar's office.
- Write
a directed study proposal
- Explaining
the need for such a course
- Outlining
the intended plan of study
- Deadline
for undergraduates:
7th week of the preceding quarter
- Deadline
for graduates:
3 weeks before the quarter begins
Approval
to be obtained in this sequence
- Course
instructor
- Student's
advisor
- Department
faculty-at-large
