Career Opportunities

The Liberal Arts major is a diversified major. It is embossed over the entire college curriculum, and can be tailored to individualized student interests and needs.

With the inclusion or addition of required professional educations courses, this degree is also very useful for those who want to earn California multiple subjects elementary education teaching credentials.

The Liberal Arts major prepares the student for a wide variety of career options or can be used as the basis for admission into a variety of post-baccalaureate degree programs.

Course Overview

A total of 190 quarter units (60 upper division) is required for graduation; 48 of the last 56 units (including 16 in the major) must be taken at La Sierra University. The liberal arts curriculum is divided among three areas: general education requirements, major courses, and electives.

The Liberal Arts major consists of 68 units (32 upper division) including courses from four areas plus additional courses in one area for an individualized concentration as follows:

Humanities (16 units)
History, modern language, philosophy, and history or appreciation of art, music, or drama.

English/Communication (16 units)
Composition, literature, and communication skills.

Mathematics/Science (12 units)
Biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics/statistics, geology, and physics.

Social Sciences (12 units)
Anthropology, economics, geography, psychology, political science, and sociology.

Concentration (12 units)
Any one of the above areas.

Preparation for credentialing in elementary education is possible through careful course selection. Those persons who want to earn a teaching credential should make contact with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in La Sierra University's School of Education at (951) 785-2266.

Course Schedule
