Honorably discharged after two years in the Army, he enrolled in the Fine Art (drawing, painting, and printmaking) program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where as often as possible, he signed up for photography classes. Peter graduated from SAIC with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree emphasizing Printmaking. The time at SAIC was followed by graduate work at the Institute of Design, (the American Bau Haus) at Illinois Institute of Technology where he studied Graphic Design and Photography.

Peter has taught and practiced Graphic Design and Photography for over 25 years. His serious interest and involvement in photography makes teaching photography a thoroughly enjoyable task. His professional background in graphic design (corporate communications and identity development, retail packaging design and advertising, enhance his strengths in teaching related subjects. He is working on a documentary photography project in Viet Nam which began in 1992. The project is on-going with the purpose of preserving visual evidence of what Viet Nam is like from just prior to the end of the post war embargo until now. During his documentary efforts in Viet Nam professor Erhard prefers to travel by himself on motorcycle. He has covered over 6000 miles in both urban and remote mountainous areas, traveling round trip twice between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. He has exhibited his photographic work in exhibitions in Michigan, New York, Washington D. C., Missouri and California.

Professor Erhard’s graphic design work has been recognized in both Print and Communication Arts Magazines and by the new York Art Directors Club.
