When music industry professionals take the stage at La Sierra University next Thursday, their goal will be two-fold; deliver top-notch performances of baroque classical works, tango and jazz, and raise money for the university's Big Band saxophone section.

David Brennan, La Sierra adjunct faculty saxophonist and an ensemble and entertainment industry musician, together with guitarist Honglac Hathuc, will offer an eclectic evening of wide-ranging music. The duo will play an intriguing mix of compositions, including pieces by G.F. Handel, Astor Piazzolla, Ralph Towner, Kenny Durham, and others.

The performance will serve as the final Faculty Series Concert at La Sierra and will take place in Hole Memorial Auditorium on Thurs., June 4, at 7 p.m. Ticket sales will help fund the purchase of new mouthpieces for the university's Big Band saxophones.

In a unique twist, the evening will also feature the appearance of three La Sierra University student ensembles, performing both classical and jazz works by John Williams, George Gershwin, Miles Davis, and Sonny Rollins.

Brennan's performance career includes recorded music for and appearances in several motion pictures, including “A Bright Shining Lie,” “Pumpkin,” “Road Trip,” “Don't Say A Word,” and “Shrek the Halls.” In addition, he has performed for President Bill Clinton and served as a consultant for the hit ABC show “Grey's Anatomy.”

His ensemble experiences include performances with the West Hollywood Orchestra, Santa Monica College Symphony, Santa Monica Civic Light Opera, and Gang Nam Symphony in Seoul, South Korea. Additionally, he acquired permission for and arranged a saxophone quartet version of Lindsey Buckingham's (Fleetwood Mac) hit song “Go Your Own Way,” which premiered in concert in Los Angeles. Brennan earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied saxophone performance, conducting and music education. At La Sierra he teaches saxophone, chamber music, jazz improvisation/theory, woodwind technique, and music appreciation.

Tickets for the Faculty Series Concert are $10 general admission; $5 for senior citizens, La Sierra University faculty, staff and students; $20 family admission; no charge for children under age 12.
