Riverside's preeminent photographer to exhibit at Brandstater

Michael J. Elderman, whose photographic expertise has for years captured Riverside and Southern California landmarks, events and people will display his talents at La Sierra University's Brandstater Gallery this month.

The Brandstater Gallery in collaboration with the Riverside Art Museum and Inlandia Institute will present “Riverside's Fox Theater: Illuminated Process,” an exhibit of Elderman's photographs depicting the renovation of Riverside's historic Fox Theater. The show brings together three different views on the preservation of the theater through Elderman's beautiful photographic essay of its preservation, a discussion by Peyton Hall, FAIA, on identifying the character-defining elements that preserve the theater's sense of time and place, and Bailey Construction's look at the crafts and craftsmanship and artistry that restored those elements.

Brandstater Gallery will host the exhibit, titled “Riverside's Fox Theater: Illuminated Process,” at Brandstater Gallery Nov. 9 - Dec. 10. The gallery will hold an opening reception Nov. 9, 6 - 8 p.m. Gallery hours are Mon. - Thurs., 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sun., 2 - 5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information call 951-785-2456.

The show will also feature the various processes involved in creating Elderman's self-published book about the Fox Theater. The book, due out in mid December, incorporates the essays of three authors plus upwards of 35 photographs. The book is titled “Riverside's Fox Theater: An Intimate Portrait.”
