Nurses are an integral part of the health care team. Nurses help patients cope with illness and provide the care needed for each patient. The BSN prepares students for professional nursing in acute and community settings. Nurses may also serve as advocates for patients, families and communities. Nurses may find employment in private and public health agencies, doctor’s offices, hospitals, rehabilitative centers, clinics, schools, industry, and nursing homes.

Educational Qualifications

To receive the BSN at Loma Linda University, the student will complete the prerequisites at La Sierra University and then complete two years and two quarters at Loma Linda University. At this time, the student is eligible to take the national licensing exam. The BS nurse is eligible for the masters in nursing if he/she has maintained a “B” average or above. Areas of further study open might include clinical specialty, teaching, a nurse practitioner role, administration, or nursing research. 

Pre-Entrance & Pre-Interview Tests

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) and a Critical thinking test are required. The TEAS has four parts:
  • Math: Whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions and decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportions.
  • Reading: Paragraph and passage comprehension and inferences/conclusions.
  • English: Punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.
  • Science: Science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, basic principles, and general science.
Minimum: A minimum of 50th percentile in every content area is required. If one or more of the scores falls below the 50th percentile, the entire test may be retaken only one time within a year. You can also buy a critical reasoning book at Barnes & Noble (e.g. Title: Reasoning Skills; Company: Learning Express).
